WHAT WE BELIEVE

Methods may change but the message stays the same. As a community of faith we’re rooted in truth, the teachings of the scripture. Soma is built on certain foundational beliefs that give us direction as a church.

God

We believe in one personal God who exists eternally in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each member serves different functions yet is equal in power, authority and glory.

Deuteronomy 6:4 Isaiah 61:1 Matthew 28:19 Mark 1:9-11 Luke 1:35 John 5:21-23; 14:10, 16 Romans 8:9-11  1 Corinthians 8:6  2 Corinthians 13:14  Hebrews 1:8-10  James 2:19

Jesus

We believe Jesus Christ to be the virgin born Son of God who lived in flesh, died for the sins of the world, was buried, rose again, and ascended to the Father according to the Scriptures. He lived a perfect life, so that He could be a substitution for us in satisfying God’s demands for perfection. He defeated death in His resurrection so that we can have life.

Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit who regenerates and indwells every believer of Jesus, assures us of our relationship with Christ, guides us into all truth, exalts Jesus and convicts of sin, God’s righteousness and the coming judgment. He comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, and empowers us to be more like Jesus.

The Bible

We believe that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture. We believe in the accuracy, truth, authority and power of the Holy Scriptures as God’s Word to all people. We believe the Word of God to be living, active and completely relevant to our daily lives.

Mankind

Mankind is made in the image of God and is the supreme object of His creation. We were created to have fellowship with God but became separated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, we cannot attain a right relationship with God through our own effort, but only by the grace offered through Jesus. Every human personality is uniquely created, possesses dignity, and is worthy of respect and love.

Salvation

We believe that the death of Jesus Christ was the final and complete sacrifice for the sins of humanity. Salvation is obtained by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. All who repent of their sins and receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are born again into eternal life as children of God.

The Church

The Church is a people not a place. Those who have placed their faith in Jesus are knit together in one Body, a distinctive community of faith expressed in local expressions, engaging culture with God’s hope and love … a Church for which Christ will personally return. The purpose of the Church is to glorify God by loving him, obeying Him and bringing the gospel to the world.

Eternity

Man was created to exist forever. He will exist either eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is Heaven. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.
